Trick pic answers

Congratulations Aunt Tessa! Trick pic 1 was, indeed, the web of the spider in trick pic 2 (yes, that was what it was Aunt Tessa and Kaitlyn!).
Daddy took both pictures. Here's the full picture of this *lovely* spider that is living on our porch... (Daddy went to take another look at him less than two hours after this picture was taken, and he had a full web made!)

Thankful Thursday!

This week, I've been thankful for...
~The example of people before us that loved their Lord, and that God lead others to document their lives (I'm reading "The Titanic's Last Hero", by Moody Adams, about- guess who ;)- John Harper.)
~The flight of dragonflies.
~Lawn mowers.
~Weed-eaters.
~A garden full of color from snapdragons, Crape Myrtles, Dusty Millers, roses, and other flowers. (Can you tell we've been doing yard work the passed few days ;)?)
~Prayer.
~Being able to glean ideas from others crafting. (This was really pretty from what I could tell. But, I dislike big pieces of jewelry, and I NEVER wear dangling earrings (there is always a child in the stage of pulling anything that sparkles in this house (of which I am extremely thankful, I might add!), and I have a phobia of anyone trying to mess with even the little earrings which I deem much harder to yank (you can ask my Mother. I had forgot that aspect when I had my ears re-pierced last year. Thankfully, so far it hasn't been an issue!). But, I'm wondering if it might work to make some little magnets that my Aunts have made in the past using these marbles (that I've been thinking of trying my hand at for years)?)
~Everybody, especially Peter, feeling much better than they did last week/early this week!
But, on the flip side, I'm really, really sorry that Peter felt so bad... but why are they at there snugly-est, squishy-est, and hugging-est when they're sick? I love those snuggles, I wish they didn't have to be sick for them!!!
~Little frogs.
~A Daddy that loves to serve and lead his family. (Thank you for the wonderful pancake breakfast this morning, Daddy!)
~Rags.
~Window cleaner.
~And clean windows.
~Little sisters and brothers who love to be with me, cleaning, playing, singing, reading :)!
~A baby's fluffy head :). Peter still lives with bedhead hair ;).
~Monopoly (Bethi and I are planning a game after she's done with the math lesson she's finishing up. I'll tell you if we're able to work it out so that everybody has a game piece once the rest of the family sees it out ;). We have two Candy land boards for this purpose, but that is the only board game that we've doubled up so far. We are a bit better with card games :).)
~Getting to see Abbi turning into such a big girl. She has taken her role as a four year old quite seriously! She has been a big help lately without even being asked. She was so proud of herself when she cleaned the living room up all by herself the other day!
~Hearing Emmi call Peter her "big brother". Hey, it's cute! And at least it isn't "big sister" anymore! I think Peter will live even if she thinks he's older than her ;).
~Hymns playing.
~And watching Peter try to figure out how the CD player works :)!

"I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being."
~Psalm 104:33

In memory of the Titanic

100 years ago, a ship sank. This ship was said to be un-sinkable. She was the most luxurious ship known. And many people boarded her, 2,340, to be exact. 1,635 of these would never return. And to this day, the world is fascinated with the story of the Titanic.
They are fascinated by the ship that, after repeated warnings that icebergs were in their path, went at almost full speed ahead, running into the iceberg that caused such a disaster. They are fascinated by the story of the men who gave their lives for their wives, children, and other women and children they did not even know. Fascinated by the fact that there would have been time to get all of the passengers off the ship before it rose up in the air and then cracked in two, but most of the lives were lost because of the fact that there were not near enough life boats on the ship to save so many because "the ship would never sink". We are fascinated that the captain would give his life that others might live, while he went down with his ship. That others would refuse to go when loved ones would be left behind. That the band would play while sinking. And that the signal "C.Q.D.", or, "Come quick, danger", would turn to "S.O.S."... "Save our souls."
Our family (especially Mommy and I) has always loved history. I believe we first heard about the Titanic from one of Mr. Doug Phillip's tapes. We later learned more through one of the books that Vision Forum published ("Nothing Can Separate Us: The Story of Nan Harper"), and then through another one of the books they carry, "The Sinking of the Titanic and Great Sea Disasters". (I would recommend both books, also "The Titanic's Last Hero"!) We learned even more, and saw some really neat artifacts, while at our state museum a couple months ago.
Did you know that the ship would not have sunk if the captain had decided to go straight ahead instead of trying to move to the side? Since he turned, there were not enough air compartments left to keep the ship afloat after the ice tore a hole all across the side instead of just in the front. And if they had just had enough lifeboats, they would have had time to get all the passengers off. But, I think God had a reason for that ship sinking. I know of at least one man who was saved while the Titanic was sinking. And it has become a good example of what pride can do... but also what it means for men to risk their lives for the women and children in their lives.
At the museum they had an iceberg for you to touch. Have you ever touched one? More people died from freezing, or the shock of the cold water, than drowning.
Many passengers were supposed to go on other boats, but, because of delays in their departure, or wanting to ride on a better class boat, they chose the Titanic instead. John Harper himself was suppose to be on another ship.
And many people were going to board the lifeboats, but perished looking for family members, some of whom were already on a lifeboat, or giving their place to "lower class" passengers just because they had young children who needed them.
Our favorite Titanic passengers are John Harper and his daughter, Nan. Little Nan was only six when her preacher Father went to be with the Lord. But even as he was swimming in the frigid water, he was swimming to as many people as he could, sharing with them the gospel. He would not hold onto any of the boards of the ship to help him stay afloat as others did- he would not ruin the chances of rescue for others when he knew that he was ready to face his Master in heaven. One man that he witnessed to while so close to death actually became saved, and lived to tell about the work that Mr. Harper did for his Lord during this trial. While John Harper gave his life-vest to another, some others were making sure that their dogs were put in lifeboats!
A couple months ago, our family took a trip to the Titanic exhibit at our state museum. It isn't too far away, but we make a day of it whenever we go, eating an early lunch on the way there and staying until suppertime :). (It took us about four of those trips to get through the whole museum. Daddy laughs at us all the time, because we have to read everything. Well, what did they write it for?!) When we got to the Titanic exhibit, they handed out "passenger cards" to everybody who went in, you got a card for one of the real passengers, and when you got to the end of the exhibit, you looked on the wall and found out "who" you were, whether "you" lived or died. Ironically, all of us girls lived, while Daddy and Andrew and Peter "died". I always knew they would follow the Lord's commands and that they loved us :).
But what was more interesting was that Daddy's character was- would you believe it?!- John Harper!
As our cards were being handed out, the sweet lady who passed them out was explaining how it worked, and Daddy glanced at his card. As soon as she was done talking, he raised his hand and said "I died."
"You don't know that!"
"Yes, I do."
"How? Are you just saying that because you were a man, or...?"
At this point, Mommy asked who he got, and Daddy announced that it was John Harper.
At this point, the lady behind the counter kind of "got it", and asked if we had researched this particular person. Of course we answered that he was our favorite passenger :).
It was really interesting, seeing how the different cabins would have looked, getting to see things like brushes, combs, make-up (!?), plates, watered out letters, haha, touching icebergs, keeping children away from the cases that would send alarms off if you touched them (amazingly, nobody (in our family :)) touched them while we were there!), and learning so much about it. They had models of the Titanic before and after she cracked, and they had a video of items on the ocean floor from the ship. I also found it kind of entertaining that the music playing went from gay in the first half, which was all about the building of the ship, to the foreboding music that played as you got to the part that actually addressed the disaster. (That is the only room in the museum with music playing, might I add.)
Anyway... You would really have had to go to really experience it. But I thought it was really neat, in a kind of of sad way. I mean, we were looking at things that belonged to the people who died because of the ship this whole thing was about, but...
After we got home that night, of course we had to look up even more about the whole thing. We saw interviews with some of the people who survived. We saw one of Eva Hart, Nan's best friend on the Titanic.
And, of course, the next day (it was too late when we got home that night) we looked up our characters. I think some of the neatest things we found were that Bethi was Abbi's "Mother", and  Andrew was to ship's photographer :). (And the fact that I was about twice Mommy's age, while Tori, true to life, was four years younger than me :).)

could be the cause of such a disaster."*

"Even in death there is victory if you have the Fathers love."*

Of icebergs and fevers

Great news first: Peter is feeling MUCH better today! He no longer has a fever, and seems to be breathing much better! He is his regular, smile-y self, although a bit shaky and less busy than usual ;). He s sitting here so snug'y :)... We are so glad that he was only that bad fr one day!!!
And as to the icebergs, Bethi and I had a great time earlier looking up icebergs in the encyclopedia :). She asked about them this morning, and so I took her back to the library and looked it up with her. I learned a bit, too :). We saw Greenland on the map (Aunt Tessa, can you tell Grandma that Bethi definitely remembered that from our history study with her :)?), we talked about how to use an encyclopedia :), we learned how many feet a mile is (yes, I got off on "rabbit trails", but hey, they were all related!), what ratio of the iceberg can be seen above versus below the water line, among other things that she thought were just as interesting :). But not how cold they are, at least we learned that while at the Titanic exhibit. It may be wrong of me, but I had to wonder what kind of encyclopedia we had that didn't tell you how cold the thing that is famous for being cold is :)? Anyway, we had fun....

"Fighting is not failing."

Our pastor made that statement during the sermon this morning. It is so easy for Christians to be discouraged because we are tempted to sin, but it is only when we decide to follow the devil that we fail. Just because we are having to flee from something doesn't mean that we are no longer walking with the Lord! Jesus didn't say that it would be easy to follow him, just that he would give us all the help we need!
It has been a fairly quiet Sunday. We expected to have friends over for the afternoon, but, due to some sickness Peter got on Thursday which got much worse instead of better last night, we decided that it would be better for us to keep him away from others. Poor baby is just miserable :(. We aren't sure what is the congestion everybody else had Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, and what is teething, but he is not feeling good in the least :(.
Abbi made her first crocheted chain stitch today :)! (I seem to have a thing for teaching crochet while people are sick?). Just one all by herself, but that is a start! She didn't know that you couldn't crochet a big, long "snake" (for Peter ;)) with just one stitch, she thought that it was all the yarn hanging off your stitch that made it big, and I couldn't disappoint her after she had worked so hard :P...

It is the beginning of a new month!

I always love the start of a new month, it makes me feel like starting new things, and what-not :). Although I do like a new year and week, I just like a new month better, as it isn't as long as a year (easier to see the end ;)), but you still have a longer time to get stuff done, haha :).
This month I hope to:
With the Lord's help, to grow more like him!!! (Although, this is a on-going one, not finished this month by any means!)
Make Tori and Andrew's birthday gifts.
Map out Christmas gifts (call me nuts, but I will, most likely, be starting making those Christmas gifts in early October. With the fact that I can only get one ball of yarn 40% off a week, and that I make at least 80%, usually 100%, of them by hand, it takes a while ;). I do have one gift that I know will be going on that list... I can't wait to make this for Peter :).)
Help come up with creative meals to get some of the many bulk items that we haven't been using lately out of our pantry.
Pick sign language back up. I'm not sure how, but Tori and I kind of just quit moving forward with it, though we do still use what we've learned. You are supposed to be able to learn in a week if wanted?...
Finish reading the driver's manual that Daddy bought me :P... I don't really want to drive, but I know that, even if  Daddy let's me decide when I learn, I'll have to learn some time, and I'd rather I got as much learning as possible out of the car ;). It doesn't help that all my friends are talking about learning to drive and how *wonderful* it is... eighteen wheelers coming inches from them... forgetting they have breaks on the car... running into a/c units the first lesson...
And finish memorizing Philippians 1:27- 2:11.
(And get a certain post out of draft mode, haha!)
I may keep you updated on any progress on the list :).

We are not morning people.

Did I just say that?
Scratch that. Our family hates waking up in the early morning. But we don't mind staying up until the early morning.
You know, until like 4:00 a.m.
Not joking!
Although we missed Daddy *so much* when he was out of town Thursday and Friday, Tori and I did have a fun time having a "sleepover" with Mommy and Peter Thursday night, soon joined by Emmi, then Abbi. That was one full King-sized bed!
